Former F1 driver Johnny Herbert recently discussed the possibility of Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari starting next season. The Scuderia has made an unexpected leap in performance in 2024, reflecting a shift in mentality within the Maranello team. It has been years since Ferrari has been able to compete for victories in the second half of the season, especially with working updates.
With this trend, the team seems increasingly likely to fight in 2025, both in the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Additionally, Ferrari could be one of the strongest teams heading into 2026, when the new regulations centered around the new power units will come into play.
Lewis Hamilton still has what it takes to win
A series of expectations suggest a determined strength in the car, while there remain some doubts about Lewis Hamilton’s performance. With his arrival at Maranello at the age of 39, there are concerns that his pace may not match Charles Leclerc’s and could affect his title fight.

For Lewis, it will be something new. His relationship with Fred Vasseur will be positive and will benefit the team. He truly respects him. And then there’s Charles, with whom he’ll have to compete, and that will motivate him a lot. It’s all about motivation for the driver. It should be a great start for Ferrari, given where they are at the moment. They need to fine-tune a couple of things to ensure overall consistency, but the car has the pace to win races, as Charles has shown.” – the former Formula 1 driver concluded.
