As the final part of the 2024 Formula One season approaches, no one expected such a tight title fight. The Red Bull dominance seen last year, along with a largely unchanged regulation, suggested an uncontested reign for Max Verstappen, who seemed poised to claim his fourth consecutive Formula 1 world title.
However, the reality on the track has been quite different. McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes are all competing with Red Bull for the Constructors’ Championship, with Lando Norris (and Charles Leclerc in the background) also eyeing the World Champion title.
Can Ferrari do it? Here’s what the team needs.
After the Singapore Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc spoke about Scuderia Ferrari’s championship hopes, explaining what it will take to achieve what seems like a monumental task. “We will need some luck,” the Monegasque driver said. “Even if we get good results from now until the end of the year, it doesn’t guarantee we will win the Drivers’ title. In fact, I’m not really thinking about that right now. I prefer to focus on one race at a time because getting our hopes up could be a grave mistake at this point in the season.” – he pointed out.
“Since Monza, we’ve raced on very specific tracks that have allowed us to perform well, and I hope that continues after Singapore,” Charles Leclerc added. “I still expect McLaren and Red Bull to be very fast again. We need to be ambitious every weekend to try to get the most out of the car. We’re working well, and the developments are providing the improvements we expect,” he concluded.
So it’s not just about the Constructors’ Championship. Charles Leclerc also has a small thought in his mind about the Drivers’ standings, even though the gap to the leading duo is quite large. Ferrari will need both luck and a highly competitive car to bring a title back to Maranello, a prize that has been absent for too long.
