Ferrari has climbed back to second place in the Constructors’ Championship, and now the challenge is to defend that position. Charles Leclerc, who delivered another strong performance by finishing second at the Mexican Grand Prix, helped the team move ahead of Mercedes once again. However, the gap to both Mercedes and Red Bull remains close, and the fight is far from over.
The recent back-to-back podiums have given the Italian team renewed confidence for the rest of the season and even for 2026. Charles Leclerc himself admitted that these two strong weekends have given him hope, but he also knows it will be tough to maintain such consistency across the final rounds of the championship.
For the Scuderia, the main goal is to finish right behind McLaren in the standings by the end of the year. Although both Charles Leclerc and the team have repeatedly said that a race victory this season would be difficult, the improving performance of the SF-25 is clear proof of progress. The two consecutive podiums confirm that Ferrari is heading in the right direction. While the team hasn’t secured P2 yet, it will do everything possible to defend it. Speaking about this challenge, Charles Leclerc explained what Ferrari must focus on to stay ahead of Mercedes and Red Bull.
Leclerc’s comments
After strong performances in Austin and Mexico, Ferrari has regained its advantage over Mercedes in the Constructors’ standings. Charles Leclerc has been the key figure in this resurgence, scoring two consecutive podiums — third in Austin and second in Mexico City. It all started with the Monegasque driver’s solid defense against Lando Norris and his impressive race pace in Texas. Then, in Mexico, both SF-25s performed well in qualifying, setting up a competitive weekend for the team.
While Lewis Hamilton received a penalty early in the race that pushed him down the order, Charles Leclerc’s race was far smoother. Despite the chaos at the start, he managed to keep his composure and even held off Max Verstappen’s Red Bull until the finish line. These consistent performances have significantly strengthened Ferrari’s position in the battle with Mercedes and Red Bull.
Still, Charles Leclerc remains realistic about the challenges ahead. “It will be really difficult to remain second,” said the Ferrari driver. “If I look at the last two races, I definitely feel more confident. But if I look at the ones before that, a bit less so.”
He continued: “We need to focus on one race at a time and always try to maximize our potential, just like we did in Austin and Mexico.”
Charles Leclerc concluded by emphasizing the importance of consistency. “It’s not easy to perform at this level every single weekend. That said, it has to be our goal, and we’ll give everything to achieve it.”
