Charles Leclerc and the Hamilton challenge
As expected, Lewis Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari has drawn worldwide attention, and even the Tifosi have contributed to creating an atmosphere in Maranello that hasn’t been felt in decades. However, in this great red celebration, Charles Leclerc risks being overlooked, despite being the Ferrari “flag-bearer” and entering his seventh season with the Scuderia.
The Monegasque has willingly taken a step back, allowing Lewis Hamilton to enjoy the overwhelming red wave in his first days in Italy. But he won’t stay in the background for long. Lewis Hamilton’s presence, after all, also motivates Charles Leclerc to give his best and reaffirm that he will be Ferrari’s reference driver in 2025. To achieve this, he will have to beat Sir Lewis, and #16 believes he has what it takes.
Charles Leclerc’s comments
“I have full confidence in my abilities. That said, it’s very difficult to say now whether I can beat him because I have never directly compared myself to Lewis in the same car at the same time—I guess time will tell,” said Leclerc. “It’s definitely a huge challenge and probably one of the biggest of my career. He is the most successful driver in F1, and having him as a teammate is a great motivation for me, both to learn and to show what I’m capable of.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
“Will the age difference work in my favor? I don’t know. From what I’ve seen of Lewis, he’s in incredible shape, so I don’t think that will play a role. I believe he is extremely motivated to start this new adventure,” he added. “We can push each other to improve. A teammate always pushes the other side of the garage to get better and to replicate the things they do better than you. This elevates not only the drivers but also the team.” – Charles Leclerc concluded.
