Cadillac is getting ready to enter Formula 1, with the American team having scheduled an announcement that could concern the arrival of a new driver.
The 2026 season is about to come to life, with several teams set to reveal the first liveries that will soon make their on-track debut. Cadillac will become the eleventh Formula 1 team from this year, and Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez will be at the wheel of the two single-seaters from the American manufacturer. The new outfit announced on its social media channels that an announcement will be made in the coming days, which could be linked to the arrival of a reserve driver.
The new regulations offer a major opportunity for Cadillac, with all teams forced to start from a clean slate. For the time being, the cars will use Ferrari power units, with the Maranello-based team also having provided the SF-23 for TPC testing at Imola. However, the collaboration between the two manufacturers is set to come to an end in the future, as the new entrant aims to develop and produce its own engines.
Cadillac’s announcement
On its official social media channels, Cadillac confirmed that an announcement related to its Formula 1 future will arrive on 5 January. Several clues included in the post have led to speculation that the news could concern the possible arrival of Guanyu Zhou as reserve driver. Shortly afterwards, on 8 January, the team will also unveil its livery during the Super Bowl.
Inside the eyes of a cat featured in the teaser image, the number 24 can be seen, a number that previously identified the Chinese driver during his time in Formula 1. Earlier today, Ferrari confirmed Zhou’s departure after he worked with the team throughout 2025, contributing in the simulator and during on-track testing. Cadillac may therefore have seized the opportunity to secure a reserve driver, a role that was still vacant as the new season approaches.
