Formula 1 drivers swap F1 cars for giant Lego karts at Silverstone
Before the serious business of the British Grand Prix got underway, Formula 1 fans were treated to one of the most entertaining moments of the weekend as the entire grid took part in a unique Lego kart race at Silverstone.
Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and their fellow drivers climbed into custom-built karts inspired by Lego’s iconic bricks, turning the famous circuit into the setting for a light-hearted competition that quickly became a fan favourite. Away from the intense championship battle, the event showcased the drivers’ playful side and provided plenty of memorable moments before the lights went out for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
The colourful karts, each decorated in the style of the teams they represented, lined up on the Silverstone grid before setting off for a short race packed with overtaking attempts, close battles and plenty of laughter. While the competition was far less serious than an F1 race, the drivers were clearly determined not to give anything away once the race began.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton embrace the fun
Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton immediately became two of the stars of the event. Charles Leclerc, driving a bright red Lego Ferrari kart carrying his familiar number 16, appeared fully committed despite the playful nature of the race, while Lewis Hamilton also embraced the occasion as the drivers entertained thousands of fans around the historic British circuit.
Several moments quickly went viral across social media, including drivers sliding through the gravel, kicking up clouds of dust and laughing at the unpredictable handling of the oversized karts. Unlike Formula 1 machinery, the Lego vehicles offered very little grip, making every corner an adventure and creating some hilarious battles throughout the field.
The relaxed atmosphere was a welcome contrast to the pressure of a Grand Prix weekend. Team rivalries were temporarily put aside as drivers from Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull and the rest of the grid enjoyed a rare opportunity to compete purely for fun.

A memorable Silverstone spectacle for Formula 1 fans
The Lego kart race highlighted Formula 1’s growing effort to bring fans even closer to the personalities behind the helmets. While the championship fight remains fiercely competitive on track, events like this allow supporters to see a different side of the drivers and help create memorable moments away from traditional race sessions.
For Ferrari supporters, seeing Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton enjoying themselves together before returning their focus to the British Grand Prix added another memorable chapter to the Silverstone weekend. It was a reminder that, despite the fierce competition on Sundays, Formula 1 still knows how to have fun.
