In a recent interview for the Croatian media, British business magnate and former chief executive of the Formula One Group, Bernie Ecclestone, admitted that he embraced the idea of introducing a budget cap in view of the 2022 Formula 1 season, specifying how a limited budget could help small and medium-sized teams, over time, to close the gap from those who currently “hang out| in the top areas of the rankings.
In the same way, however, Liberty Media will have to pay a lot of attention to the management of accounts by the most important teams, given that these, as a result of their position on the starting grid, could try to circumvent the rules and therefore not respect the restrictions and limits imposed by the regulation that will be launched for the three-year period 2022-2025.
“I don’t mind the budget cap rule,” said the British manager. “It allows to have a clear management of the accounts and over time there could be a leveling of the performances on the track, even if an effective management method will be needed. Many manufacturers will look for solutions to still spend more than the maximum limit established by the regulation. It will be interesting”. – Former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone explained.
