With the 2024 Formula One Grand Prix season slowly heading towards a close for another year, there can be few fans out there who are not keenly aware of young British racer Oliver Bearman.
The 19 year old talent has incredible potential in the sport and he signed a multi year contract with Team Haas back in July, and he is certainly not shy when it comes to talking up his own ambitions and aims in the world of Formula One, as although he is now preparing for his second F1 race at the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan in Baku this coming Sunday, he took time out to meet with the media and he stated his aim was to be a world champion and ultimately drive properly for Ferrari.
With Dane Kevin Magnussen being banned for the race after exceeding the penalty point limit, Bearman is back in the drivers seat and he is clearly looking to make the most of it and for those who fancy taking a look at the Formula 1 TPP Betting Guide as there will probably be good odds on it not being the last race of the year for him.
Bearman made his F1 debut as a then fresh faced 18 year old back in March for Ferrari. He replaced Spaniard Carlos Sainz after he was diagnosed with Appendicitis for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix held in Jeddah and he finished in a very creditable seventh place, which certainly boosted his profile.
Speaking in his interview he stated that his singular aim was to win an F1 world championship, and ultimately return to Ferrari having previously come through their team’s driver academy. Until then though, he was humble enough to know that time is on his side, that he has plenty to learn and that he was just determined to enjoy his journey in the sport – as he is more than aware that at the end of the day, what will be will be, and he might as well just have fun along the way.
For fans of team Haas who may be wondering if his interview was a little bit disrespectful to them, it certainly was not. His stated that his ‘immediate future’ lay with the team and also commented that his Jeddah performance had been key to him securing their driving seat for 2025, and he was relishing the opportunity for success that lay ahead of him, as he is more than aware that Haas have placed a significant amount of trust in him as well.

However, it is only natural that he has ties and an affiliation to Ferrari having come through their apprentice ranks in effect, and given the fact that seven time winning champion Lewis Hamilton has signed on for 2025, it should not be forgotten that his compatriot has been his long term hero and aspiration – so there is a double pull at play here.
For now though, his second fully professional race will be a new experience. Saudi Arabia saw him have only hours to prepare for his debut as he was on Formula 2 championship duty at the time. For this one, he has had far longer to prepare, so obviously he has had far longer to think about it and he knows himself that this will simply grow the nerves as the race nears.
Learning to control his emotions is part of the development and learning process though, and in acknowledging that he is tempering his own expectations for the race and is not focused on the result, he just wants to take the experience to help better set him up for next year.
Plenty will be keeping an eye out for how he does.
