Barcelona F1 Test 2026 Day 3: Haas Halted, First Ferrari-Powered Engine Issue
On the third day of the five-day 2026 pre-season tests at Barcelona, the first technical issue has hit a Ferrari-powered car. Specifically, it was not Ferrari itself, but a car running a Ferrari engine that encountered trouble. This morning, Ollie Bearman’s Haas VF-26 stopped on track in Turn 2, requiring recovery by the marshals and a tow back to the pits, where the mechanics will be able to closely inspect the problem.

It is confirmed that this was not a driver error but a technical fault. Until now, all Ferrari-powered cars – including those from Cadillac and of course the SF-26 – had not suffered any technical issues. Early reports suggest the problem may involve the power unit in the American team’s car. However, this remains speculative until confirmed officially by the Haas team in Kannapolis.
It is now up to the team led by Ayao Komatsu to work on resolving the issue and try to get the car back on track for the afternoon session, ensuring they do not lose an entire day of important testing. Today marks Haas’ second day on track, and they will only have one more day to run the car, choosing between Thursday and Friday.
The breakdown of Oliver Bearman’s Haas marks a significant moment in the 2026 pre-season, as it represents the first crack in the otherwise formidable reliability armor shown by Ferrari-powered cars in Barcelona. As Haas engineers race against the clock to diagnose the suspected Power Unit failure, the incident serves as a timely reminder of the immense technical challenges posed by the new regulatory era, where even a single lost afternoon can set a team back significantly in their development race.
