Bahrain F1-2 Test, Day 2: Andrea Kimi Antonelli tops the timesheet
It’s becoming a recurring theme during these Bahrain tests: by just a handful of thousandths, Mercedes-powered cars often set the fastest lap. Today, it was Andrea Kimi Antonelli who claimed the top spot on the Day 2 timesheet, beating Oscar Piastri’s McLaren by just 0.058 seconds. Right behind these two benchmark teams powered by Brixworth engines, Red Bull and Ferrari made their presence felt with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
On a day when Ferrari dominated paddock conversations with its innovative rear wing that rotates on itself, Lewis Hamilton was limited to 78 laps, compared to Max Verstappen’s 139 laps. Like the British driver, the Dutchman had the car to himself during both the morning and afternoon sessions. While the four leading teams continue to operate in a league of their own, the midfield and backmarkers are still struggling. Aston Martin and Cadillac, in particular, continue to show reliability and performance issues. The problem is that these teams have increasingly limited time to reverse their fortunes before the season opener in Melbourne.
