Autosprint, the worldwide leader magazine on car races, reports today that Scuderia Ferrari‘s 2019 single seater could be called SF90H and that the car will have a completely new red.
There have been several rumors regarding the possibility that Mercedes will reveal the car on the same day as Ferrari. However, as far as it is known, Mercedes will only reveal it online, with no big event, while Ferrari will have a live stream and the drivers will do a meet and greet in Maranello (only for SFC members).
Scuderia Ferrari will launch its 2019 Formula 1 car on 15th February – three days before the start of pre-season testing. Ferrari will officially reveal new driver Charles Leclercalongside Sebastian Vettel, with the 21-year-old replacing Kimi Raikkonen in the factory driver line-up from 2019, along with the yet unnamed 2019 F1 car.
The Italian manufacturer will be entered into the 2019 Formula 1 world championship as Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow following its recent campaign launch with Philip Morris International, while the car’s name is tipped to remain part of the current trend and follow on from this year’s SF71H.
The FIA is making radical aerodynamic changes for 2019 to improve overtaking. The changes will reduce the aerodynamic wake created, allowing a car following another not to suffer from so much turbulence. These regulations followed in-depth research in collaboration with the Formula 1 teams, and were given the green light earlier last year. The front wings will become bigger, but less complex, featuring smaller endplates and fewer flaps. The stacked cascades, ‘r’ vanes and endplate canards that have become commonplace will no longer be permitted, leaving designers fewer tools with which to reduce the drag created by the front tyre and pull any turbulent airflow it would otherwise create away from the edge of the floor to improve underfloor and diffuser performance.
Simplification of the front brake ducts will work in tandem with the front wing changes, encouraging designers to use the ducts for the primary purpose of cooling, rather than aerodynamic gain.
