Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc comments on the Maranello team’s performance during the sprint shootout of the 2023 F1 Austrian Grand Prix at the 4.318-kilometre Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. The Monegasque driver had difficulties throughout the qualifying session for this afternoon’s race in Austria. Compared to yesterday, where he managed to find a lap at the last moment and nearly snatch pole position from Max Verstappen, today Charles could only secure sixth place behind his teammate Carlos Sainz. In an interview with Sky Sports, Charles Leclerc analyzed his qualifying session and shared his expectations for the afternoon.
Charles Leclerc was asked if he primarily lacked something in terms of tires: “Yes, probably I didn’t do a good job in managing this SQ3. I did a cool-push-cool sequence when perhaps a different strategy would have been better. The tires were extremely hot on the first lap and then on the second lap, I didn’t have enough grip. It’s a shame, but unfortunately, that’s how it went. The pace wasn’t great today under these conditions.” – the Ferrari man pointed out.
“This afternoon, I hope the track is either completely dry or completely wet. Because if it’s halfway like it was in these sessions, there’s only one racing line, and essentially, you can’t do anything. If we have a good pace and the track is dry, we will try to make overtakes.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded at the end of the Sprint Shootout in Red Bull Ring:
