Arthur Leclerc gave an exclusive interview to Radio Monaco. As a development driver for Ferrari and competing in two championships, Charles Leclerc’s younger brother is having a busy year.
Since the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship season, Arthur Leclerc has been a development driver for Scuderia Ferrari, the same team as his older brother, Charles Leclerc. “What’s good is that I get direct feedback from my brother. I ask him what we can improve. We generally have the same vision of things,” he says.
The brothers’ bond extends to other activities like playing piano and chess. “In chess, I beat him, but on the piano, we’re quite similar,” he smiles. At work, “it goes super well,” says the young man. They know how to stay professional, “we might argue when he beats me at paddle, but not when we’re working on a simulator,” jokes the driver.
Development driver: What are the tasks?
His role involves working on the settings and updates of the race car. “I use the simulator and test the new packages. I will also test the car planned for 2026,” explains the 24-year-old driver. During the Grand Prix, like last weekend, his job requires communication with the Ferrari drivers. “I take their feedback. I hear comparisons with reality. Then we work with the engineers at the factory,” explains the Monegasque.
A busy season
Alongside his role as a development driver, Arthur Leclerc is competing in two championships. Under the colors of Scuderia Baldini, he races in the Italian GT, the Italian Grand Touring sports car championship. He also participates in the European endurance championship, the European Le Mans Series in LMP2, with the French team Panis Racing. “It’s a busy season, but I love what I do. I love spending time behind the wheel. The more weekends there are, the happier I am,” he says. And the driver has his motivations: “speed, competition, and pushing the limits.”

Last season, Arthur Leclerc competed in the Formula 2 championship with the DAMS team. This year, the vehicles are different. A first for the young driver, who has so far driven in Formula 2, 3, and 4. A change to which he has adapted. “It’s just a different philosophy because these races are a bit longer. It’s very enjoyable, and you get used to it quickly,” he says.

Future goals
The Formula 1 World Championship, “is a dream I’ve had since I was little. Our father passed on his passion. We would wake up at six o’clock to watch the Grand Prix,” he recalls. In January, the Monegasque got a taste of the power of Formula 1 cars. Scuderia Ferrari conducted private tests at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in Spain. Arthur Leclerc was able to drive the F1-75, alongside the team’s two main drivers. A special moment for the Leclerc siblings. “It was just incredible to share the circuit with him,” says Arthur Leclerc. “It’s crazy to think we’ve gotten here, it’s incredible. I’m very proud of Charles,” he adds.
