The 2022 Formula One calendar, 15 years after the 2006 edition, once again sees the Imola stage not as a replacement, but as an official round located in its historical position, that is, at the beginning of the season in the middle of spring. Italian journalist Leo Turrini in today’s edition of Il Resto del Carlino emphasizes that “an act of justice” has taken place with the return of Imola on a permanent basis within the Formula One calendar. A great return that now calls for a great performance from Ferrari, expected to make a great comeback after a very disappointing 2020 championship which is followed by a promising 2021 season.
“Mattia Binotto will do well to mark the date in red. Sunday 24 April 2022 Imola will regain possession, this time in a definitive and official way, of its race. […] Imola, in 2022, will be the fourth stage of a championship that will unquestionably represent the turning point for the Maranello-based company. […] And then the Imola event will already be able to give a credible, if not definitive, answer on the competitiveness of the Maranello team. First the Grand Prix of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia will have already taken place: prologues of a verdict that the Santerno track will presumably issue without appeal. […] Do you know when Imola was reflected for the last time in popular passion? It was 2006 and Michael Schumacher won at the end of a grueling duel with Fernando Alonso, at that time a Renault driver. If I remember correctly, Mattia Binotto was there. Well, he knows what it’s like. Next year Ferrari has to urgently repliy, thank you ”. – Leo Turrini concluded.
