It was a historic victory, one that rightfully entered motorsport history, achieved by Ferrari at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the 499P number 50, driven by Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina, and Nicklas Nielsen, managed to win the most famous endurance race in the world for the second year in a row, repeating the success of 2023—the year in which Ferrari returned to victory fifty years after its last appearance in the Loire, during the centenary of the Sarthe.
A victory that, as mentioned, wrote an indelible page for motorsport, for the French classic, and for Maranello, and that, among other things, showcased to the world the value of a team (Ferrari and AF Corse, which manages the cars) that in three years was able to bring an ambitious project to life, with an almost impossible challenge on the horizon: to return to winning at Le Mans by beating giants like Toyota, who have been navigating WEC for years, Porsche, and many others. A project that never gave up in the face of difficulties but instead turned them into opportunities.
A dream which, with hard work, dedication, and passion, took shape, leading to the double triumph at Sarthe, as well as the full development of the 499P in the WEC (now becoming an all-around car), when the red number 50 crossed the finish line in first place, with the virtual tank practically at zero due to an extreme strategy, devised to compensate for an extra stop caused by a door issue. It was a dominant race that allowed the true value of the car to be realized, something that had rarely happened during the season due to several unfortunate events.
A project that, in fact, still has plenty of room for growth and in which both the project leaders and the drivers believe, like Antonio Fuoco, who after two years of collaboration decided by mutual agreement to continue working together, announcing during the Ferrari World Finals the renewal of the contract for the Italian driver. Antonio Fuoco did not hide his excitement and emphasized that in Maranello, they are not yet satisfied with what they have achieved and are determined to push even further.
“I am proud of the news of the renewal. We started this program three years ago, and I think we still have a lot to achieve. Winning Le Mans is definitely a good result, but we want more. We decided together to continue the project, and I hope we can achieve good results in the future.”
