Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz strongly expressed his frustration with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll following a tense close call during the final practice session for the 2023 Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver’s soft tire run was disrupted by the slow-moving Lance Stroll, whose Aston Martin lingered on the racing line as Carlos Sainz approached the high-speed Turn 11. the Canadian’s presence not only impeded the Ferrari man but also led to the Spaniard experiencing a significant spin, which left him without a representative time in the final free parctice session.
Carlos Sainz promptly called for Lance Stroll to face penalties, expressing his frustration over team radio, “This guy, honestly, this guy. If that’s not a penalty? He cannot do that in practice.” – the Spanish driver pointed out.
However, the FIA confirmed at the end of the session that there would be no further investigation into Stroll for the incident. Carlos Sainz’s Maranello teammate, Charles Leclerc, also found himself frustrated as traffic disrupted his low-fuel, soft tire run towards the end of the final free practice session which was held at the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.
