Alonso: “I expect a strong Ferrari, out of reach for us”. Alonso on Ferrari's prospects for 2021.

Fernando Alonso and Scuderia Ferrari, a love that never faded despite a marriage that ended without success. The Spaniard will find the Maranello team as a rival this season, after getting back into the game by accepting the Alpine bet for the two-year period 2021-2022. Looking at last season’s performances, one would expect a fight on equal terms, but Fernando Alonso is convinced that the Italian side will make a good step forward from the first races.

“Let’s see if the car will grow to be fighting for podiums and victories. Ferrari has always been in the battle for the top: only in 2020 it was behind, while in the last two or three years it has always been there to contend for the title with Mercedes until a few races until the end. So I expect a very strong Ferrari, if not this year, immediately from next year” – said Fernando Alonso in an interview with Sky Sport – “Last season it seemed that Ferrari and Renault were fighting for the same positions, ending with a very similar number of points, but this year Ferrari will most likely take a step forward; for the resources it has, for its history, for its potential. I don’t think, therefore, that we will fight with them. If that happens, however, I don’t know for whom this will be bad news.” – he added.

An inevitable thought goes to the new signing of Maranello, his compatriot Carlos Sainz: “I’m happy for Carlos, but I’m not surprised to see him in Ferrari. I think everyone has seen his growth over the years and I am sure that he will form an important line-up with Charles Leclerc for the future.” – the former Scuderia Ferrari driver concluded.
