As preparations continue for the 2021 Formula 1 championship, Alfa Romeo Racing has already issued a number of development tokens in order to bring in a Mercedes-designed nose, which is an important attempt to improve the aerodynamics around the front wing, according to a recent report from Motorsport Italy.
The Swiss team, which last year managed to finish only eighth in the manufacturer’s standings, has now invested its money in the development of a narrower nose for the C39 car. Technical director Luca Furbatto has been given indications to redesign the nose of the Alfa Romeo on the basis of recent Mercedes specifications.
The narrower nose, which manages to reduce front drag, is already being used by almost all Formula 1 teams. Only Scuderia Ferrari, customer team Haas, and Williams have not made the switch until now.
Crash tests
The new nose will, as usual, first have to pass the necessary tests to obtain FIA approval, including a frontal crash test, ahead of the 2021 Formula 1 pre-season testing session, which has been shortened to 3 days in 2021 and will take place on 2, 3 and 4 March
