Scuderia Ferrari will be looking for opportunities for two of its most promising juniors, Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott, for the 2022 season.
In 2020, Callum Ilott was the Formula 2 runner-up, driving for UNI-Virtuosi Racing, taking three wins and five pole positions (the most of any driver). At the end of the year it was announced he would take on the role of Scuderia Ferrari test driver for the 2021 Formula 1 season.
Robert Shwartzman made his Formula 2 debut in 2020, taking four wins, the most of any driver and finished fourth in the championship at the wheel of a Prema team car. He stays with the Italian team for 2021, with his sights set on the title.
Alongside them, Ferrari will also focus on the future of Mick Schumacher and Antonio Giovinazzi, who are currently racing in Formula 1 for Haas and Alfa Romeo.
In an interview with German automobile magazine ‘Auto Motor und Sport’, Alfa Romeo team principal Frédéric Vasseur confirmed that the driver decision for the 2022 Formula 1 season will be discussed with their partner Ferrari:
“Ferrari and Alfa Romeo are our partners. So we’re going to discuss the driver issue with them. But that’s way too early. It is now important that our drivers concentrate on their job. We’ll see again in September or October.” – he explained.
