Unlike their Formula 1 opponents who have carried out similar exercises during launch season, Alfa Romeo Racing did not show off anything of their new challenger for the 2022 Formula 1 season or its colour scheme beforehand.
The Swiss team admitted the C42 had a ‘camouflage’ livery for its running at the Italian circuit near Maranello, which is owned by Ferrari and used for their development and testing. Ferrari are, of course, Alfa Romeo’s engine supplier.
Earlier today, an encouraging piece of information was reported by Motorsport Editor at Car and Driver Greece Dimitris Bizas. The Motorsport journalist with a history of working in the media production industry, posted the following message on Twitter:
Show your support for Scuderia Ferrari with official merchandise collection from Puma!
“Information about Alfa Romeo, which I’ve cross-referenced: The feeling from inside the factory is that the C42, although a new-generation car, manages to be one second faster than its predecessor. Also, it is believed that Ferrari’s new power unit has significant gains in horsepower.”
Other reports from formu1a.uno and Italian sports journalist Leo Turrini also confirm Ferrari can count on a significantly improved power unit, which is great news given the engines that are homologate before the first race of the 2022 Formula 1 championship will subsequently be frozen for the next three or four seasons.
