The Ferrari SF-25 that will be seen at the F1 Spanish Grand Prix: Charles Leclerc is betting on aggressive balance and the new front wing. The Maranello team, buoyed by the second-place finish achieved in Monte Carlo, wants to continue improving in Spain as well. Although expectations are more modest on a track that doesn’t play to the strengths of the car, the story of the weekend is still yet to unfold.
At the Monaco Grand Prix, in front of his home fans, Charles Leclerc secured his second podium of the season. A modest haul, considering the preseason expectations, but there is still time to improve. In Barcelona, the new technical directive on flexible wings comes into effect, which could—though not necessarily—shake up the on-track hierarchy. In the meantime, the Monegasque driver reveals a few details about the SF-25.
Finding the right setup: aggressive balance on the SF-25
Speaking to journalists present at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Charles Leclerc explained the progress made in terms of setup: “I think we’ll need to dial back our expectations a bit this weekend compared to Monaco, where the situation was a bit more favourable.”
“However, that doesn’t change our approach. More than an extreme setup, I think the balance we’re aiming for this year is very, very aggressive. We need to race like this, and that won’t change now. So we’re still in the same situation.”
The Ferrari driver remained cautious on the topic of flexible wings: “It could change something, but it might also change nothing. I think none of us really knows. Yes, I mean, we know how much it will affect us—and it’s not much. We don’t know how much it will affect others. We have no idea. So we’ll have to wait and see. I really don’t know how much the balance of power on track could change.” – the Monegasque driver concluded.
