Adrian Newey has publicly commented for the first time on his departure from Red Bull, also discussing the possible move to Ferrari next season.
Although the Miami weekend is in full swing, attention in the paddock is still largely focused on what Adrian Newey’s future holds. The British designer officially announced his departure from Red Bull in the early months of 2025, thus ending a partnership that lasted almost 20 years.
Speaking from the Miami paddock, the English designer gave his first statements in an interview with Sky Sports, also responding to recent praises from Lewis Hamilton: “Honestly, it’s very kind of Lewis to say that. I’m very flattered, but at the moment, I intend to take a little break and see what the future holds.” – the British engineer admitted.
“Formula 1 is an all-consuming activity. I have been practicing it for a long time, and 2021 was a truly demanding year, with the title fight with Mercedes and, at the same time, all the research and development of the RB18, which is the father of this generation of cars. I think there comes a point where I felt, as Forrest Gump said: ‘I’m feeling a bit tired.'”
Adrian Newey then stated that he had been considering leaving Red Bull for some time, and that the scandal involving Christian Horner did not influence his decision: “If I’m honest, I’ve been thinking about it for a while, I think a bit during the winter and then with the unfolding events of this year.” – he pointed out – “I’m in a very fortunate position. I don’t need to work to live. I work because I enjoy it, and it’s a good time to take a step back and take a break, take stock of life and travel.”

“Mandy, my wife, and the dogs will probably travel in a camper or something similar through France and enjoy life, and then maybe at some point I might find myself in the shower and say, ‘Well, this will be the next adventure.'”
Finally, speaking of what his next adventure will be, the British designer replied: “At the moment, there is no plan.”
