Lewis Hamilton is a prominent promoter of diversity in motorsport. He has consistently shown support for the F1 Academy, the women’s racing category where Doriane Pin, a Mercedes-backed driver currently second in the championship, competes.
The seven-time world champion also established the Mission 44 initiative to foster diversity in sports. His efforts have included encouraging female drivers and individuals from diverse backgrounds to collaborate, aiming to challenge Formula 1’s long-standing reputation as a sport dominated by white men.
Following Doriane Pin’s recent performance in Qatar, where the French driver claimed victory in Race 1, Hamilton expressed a desire to form a team featuring her and 13-year-old karting star Kenzo Craigie.
“Kenzo and Doriane—she’s a tough one. If I were to create a team, and maybe one day I will, it would be diverse from the start,” Hamilton remarked in statements reported by *Motorsport*.
These comments sparked criticism from Sophia Floersch, a member of the Alpine Driver Academy, who called on Lewis Hamilton to take concrete steps to promote women’s inclusion in top-tier motorsport. “Actions, not words!” she commented on a *Motorsport* social media post.
Sophia Floersch has a background in endurance racing and has been competing in Formula 3 since 2023, moving from PHM Racing to Van Amersfoort Racing. However, she has yet to score points this season. Initially selected for the female driver test session in Formula E with Nissan in Madrid, Sophia Floersch ultimately did not participate.
Her remarks triggered a debate online, where many users voiced support for Lewis Hamilton instead.
