Back on track in Abu Dhabi for one of the most important sessions of the weekend, teams are focusing on race pace: here’s the LIVE coverage of FP2 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
After the first session this morning, which featured very different track temperatures than those expected in the race and nine rookies replacing the regular drivers, the teams return to action to get serious. It’s time to prepare for qualifying and assess race pace: follow the LIVE coverage of FP2 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final round of the 2025 F1 season.
The session is scheduled for 14:00 Italian time, so our LIVE updates will start around 13:55.
The fight for the championship
Arriving in Abu Dhabi, the championship is still wide open. Against all odds, Max Verstappen has kept the drivers’ title battle alive until the final round. The Dutchman is 12 points behind Lando Norris, who is also being challenged by teammate Oscar Piastri, currently third and 16 points adrift.
Making predictions is extremely difficult. On paper, the McLaren MCL39 appears as the favorite due to the car’s incredible performance, but Verstappen has repeatedly proven why he is a four-time world champion, including in Qatar. On top of that, he faces two strong competitors: the McLaren duo, although denying any team tactics, could still use strategic cooperation to help Norris clinch the title.
Other contenders: Ferrari and Mercedes
Ferrari and Mercedes could also shake up the standings. The Scuderia has achieved three consecutive podiums since 2022. Last year, Charles Leclerc staged an incredible comeback from last to third place. Mercedes also remains strong on the technical sections of the Marina Bay-style corners at Yas Marina.
Abu Dhabi temperatures
For this second practice session, temperatures are expected to hover around 26°C while the cars are on track, influencing tire performance and setup choices.
Stick with us as the title contenders hit the track. One more vital 90 minutes before the real fireworks begin.
