The 2027 Formula 1 calendar has been officially confirmed, with 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries and five continents, the returns of Portugal and Turkey and a major expansion of the Sprint format. Following approval from the World Motor Sport Council, the FIA and Formula 1 have also confirmed that the number of Sprint weekends will increase from six to ten.
Among the most notable changes, Monaco is set to host a Sprint for the first time, while Monza has been confirmed among the circuits selected for the format. Portugal will return to the championship in June, with Turkey following in October as Formula 1 reshapes the geographical flow of its 2027 season.
2027 F1 calendar starts in Bahrain
The season will begin in Bahrain, where the only pre-season test is scheduled to take place from 24 to 27 February at Sakhir. Bahrain will then host the opening Grand Prix of the championship on 14 March, followed one week later by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah.
Formula 1 will subsequently head east for Australia, Japan and China before crossing the Pacific for the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix. The championship will then enter its extended European phase, which includes one of the biggest changes to the Formula 1 calendar structure: the return of Portugal.
Portugal returns to Formula 1 at Portimao
Portugal is scheduled to return on 20 June, two weeks after the Monaco Grand Prix. Portimao last appeared on the Formula 1 calendar in 2020 and 2021, when it was brought into the championship during seasons disrupted by the pandemic.
The Portuguese round will be followed by the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Austria at Spielberg, Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps and Hungary at Budapest before the traditional summer break. The European campaign resumes at Monza on 5 September, with the Italian Grand Prix also selected as a Sprint weekend.

Madrid remains on the calendar before Baku and Turkey
After Monza, Formula 1 will return to Madrid on 12 September. The Spanish venue remains part of the 2027 schedule, with changes already planned to three corners at Madring for 2027.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku follows on 26 September before Formula 1 makes its second major comeback of the season. Turkey returns on 3 October, with Istanbul placed between Azerbaijan and Singapore.
That positioning has also been designed with the championship’s logistics in mind. Formula 1 has emphasised its intention to continue making the calendar more efficient by grouping races geographically wherever possible and reducing less efficient travel, in line with its sustainability objectives.
Qatar and Abu Dhabi retain their season-ending slots
Once Singapore is completed, Formula 1 will enter the long final phase of the championship. The series will travel to Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo and Las Vegas before returning to the Middle East for the final two rounds.
Qatar will take place at Lusail on 5 December, followed by the season finale at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi on 12 December. The calendar therefore keeps the championship at 24 Grands Prix while altering several important parts of its composition and structure.
Formula 1 expands Sprint weekends from six to ten in 2027
The other major development concerns the Sprint format. Introduced in 2021, it will expand again in 2027, increasing from six events to ten across the season.
Formula 1 has linked that decision to audience figures gathered over recent seasons. According to the championship, weekends featuring a Sprint attract an overall audience 12% higher than traditional Grand Prix weekends, while Sprint Qualifying can draw an audience up to three times larger than a normal free practice session.
Five venues are named as first-time Sprint hosts: Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi. The inclusion of Monte Carlo is particularly notable because the programme will create two qualifying sessions during the same weekend, increasing the importance of single-lap performance at a circuit where starting position has traditionally carried considerable weight.
Monza confirmed among the 2027 F1 Sprint venues
The remaining five Sprint events are set to take place at circuits that have already staged the format: Montréal, Silverstone, Monza, São Paulo and Lusail. For Italian Formula 1 fans, that means Monza is confirmed as one of the venues chosen for the expanded 2027 Sprint programme.
Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the new schedule, saying: “The 2027 calendar brings together some of the most iconic circuits and most vibrant cities in the world. We are delighted to welcome Portugal and Turkey back to the championship and to take Sprints to ten events, giving our fans even more intensity and action on track.”
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed a similar view, describing the structure of the coming season as “a strong reflection of Formula 1’s global appeal and continued growth”, while highlighting the combination of historic circuits, returning venues and the expanded Sprint programme.
Formula 1 therefore retains its 24-race limit for 2027, but the championship will look noticeably different. Portugal and Turkey provide the most visible changes to the list of venues, while the move to ten Sprint weekends reinforces Formula 1’s intention to increase the number of events where competitive track action begins on Friday.
