F1 has finally presented the official calendar for the 2026 season, revealing what the future holds for Imola.
After months of speculation, F1 has finally unveiled the official calendar for the 2026 season, putting an end to the uncertainty surrounding Imola’s future. The new season includes as many as 24 events across four continents, confirming the FIA and Liberty Media’s intent to further expand the global reach of the sport. But what stands out the most this year is a major absence: Imola.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, historically held at the Imola circuit, does not appear on the 2026 calendar. It’s news that has left many Italian and international fans disappointed, even though the departure had long been anticipated.
On the other hand, the Italian GP at Monza remains confirmed, scheduled for the weekend of September 4–6. However, with the 2026 calendar, the sport loses one of its most fascinating events — not only for its sporting history, but also for the emotional weight that has always surrounded Imola, a stage for memorable battles and, unfortunately, tragedies such as Ayrton Senna’s in 1994.
The 2026 season will kick off on March 6 in Melbourne, Australia, and conclude on December 6 in Abu Dhabi. Among the changes, Madrid stands out as the new official venue for the Spanish GP, replacing Barcelona-Catalunya, which will bid farewell to Formula 1 with the June race. Another fixture is Las Vegas, scheduled for a night race in November, now a global media spectacle.
The goal of maximizing Formula 1’s global and commercial impact is clear, but this seems to come increasingly at the expense of tradition. The farewell to Imola perfectly illustrates this shift: a break from the past in favor of a future increasingly focused on entertainment and business.
