2026 Austrian Grand Prix qualifying live updates
Good afternoon and welcome to Scuderia Fans’ live coverage of qualifying for the 2026 Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix. The session gets underway at 16:00 local time and, provided there are no red flags or lengthy interruptions, will conclude at 17:00. Over the next hour, the field will battle through the familiar knockout format of Q1, Q2 and Q3 to decide the starting grid and determine who claims the eighth pole position of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
Earlier today, the final practice session delivered an intriguing twist. Despite encountering several difficulties during Friday’s running and the opening stages of FP3, George Russell produced a late improvement to top the timesheets for Mercedes, edging teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli by just 0.038 seconds. The result has set up what promises to be a fascinating intra-team battle for pole position.
Ferrari also arrives at qualifying with renewed confidence. Lewis Hamilton, in particular, looked far more competitive after the overnight setup changes helped unlock significantly more performance from the SF-26, suggesting that many of the balance issues which hampered Friday’s sessions have been at least partially resolved. Charles Leclerc also showed encouraging pace despite not putting together a completely clean lap.
Will Mercedes remain the team to beat under the intense Spielberg sunshine, or can Ferrari, McLaren or Red Bull produce another step forward when it matters most? Stay with us throughout qualifying as we bring you every key moment, lap time and reaction live from the Red Bull Ring.
