Charles Leclerc managed to secure only seventh place in the Singapore Grand Prix qualifying. In his post-session comments, the Monegasque driver openly admitted his difficulties with the Ferrari.
A bitter Saturday for Leclerc at Marina Bay
It was a tough Saturday for Charles Leclerc at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The Ferrari driver had to settle for seventh in the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix qualifying after a session that was challenging right from FP2.
Strong FP1, but a setup change changed everything
After qualifying, Charles Leclerc spoke to Sky Sport about his struggles:
“The car was very difficult to drive. This is an extremely tough weekend.”
After a promising start on Friday morning, setup changes completely disrupted the car’s balance:
“FP1 went well, we were quick, and we still had a bit of margin. Then we had to make changes to the car, and from FP2 onwards we struggled a lot.”
Leclerc: “No excuses, we just need to do better”
Leclerc did not hide his frustration, especially when comparing Ferrari’s performance to Mercedes, who managed to take pole in a weekend where the Brackley team wasn’t expected to dominate:
“There’s surely an explanation, but in the end, when a team like Mercedes, which should struggle, takes pole, we shouldn’t make excuses. We just need to do better. I’m very sorry, I gave it my all, but the car was really difficult to drive.”
With teammate Lewis Hamilton only one grid position ahead, Ferrari will now need a perfect race strategy to recover. Analyzing the qualifying data shows that most of Ferrari’s difficulties came in the first part of the circuit, where Charles Leclerc struggled significantly. From Turn 12 onwards, however, the Monegasque driver actually had the upper hand over pole-sitter George Russell.
