A strange award ceremony took place on the United States Grand Prix podium in Austin: in fact, Pirelli small wheels were handed out to Ferrari and the second and third place finishers instead of the trophies presented by Pirelli. Charles Leclerc, however, received a trophy that seemed completely anonymous. But what happened?
The situation seemed absolutely curious. Small wheels have never been given out on the podium, and above all, these were not supposed to be the trophies awarded during the American weekend. In Texas, a celebration in honor of Pirelli was actually planned. Pirelli had prepared special caps (which were worn on the podium) and special trophies that had been unveiled in the previous days. The first three finishers and the winning team were supposed to receive trophies called Heroo.
These trophies, presented in recent days, resembled the figure of Mickey Mouse, a famous Disney character. “Heroo was created by the Italian artist and designer Matteo Macchiavelli in collaboration with Pirelli Motorsport. It represents an interpretation of the connection between single-seaters and tires,” read the presentation statement.
It went on: “The career of Heroo will not end on the Austin podium. The trophy will also become a design object produced in a limited series for collectors and fans of collectible art toys.” But the funny thing is that they never made it to the podium.
Not only that: Pirelli also removed the presentation article about Heroo from its official page and edited the article about the caps that made it to the podium. The fact that Pirelli deleted all traces is the first tangible clue that deepens the mystery.
The most probable hypothesis might be a copyright violation, either with the Disney character or with a DJ nicknamed Deadmouse, but we will wait for further news to understand what happened to the Heroo trophies.
