Charles Leclerc has become used to answering countless questions about the race for the drivers’ and constructors’ titles with his beloved Ferrari. The determination and great strength that define him are perhaps what keep fans glued to the “Il Predestinato”
During the Austin Grand Prix weekend, Italian journalist Mara Sangiorgio, SkySport’s correspondent, also had the chance to ask the Monegasque what he thinks about the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Charles Leclerc, with his usual polite and courteous manner, gave his answers with a tone that sits between bitterness and hope of bringing something more home.
Already in recent weeks, number 16 had clarified Ferrari’s position, keeping their feet firmly on the ground. The points separating both him and Ferrari from the top of both standings are many, but not insurmountable.
Can Ferrari win the 2024 F1 constructors’ championship? Can Charles Leclerc win the drivers’ title?
The Ferrari driver is fully aware of the situation. “The drivers’ championship is very difficult. The points separating me from the top are really many, so I think it’s really complicated to try to overturn the situation,” he admits.
“As for the constructors’ championship, though, the situation is slightly different. In the constructors’ fight, we have more chances, even though Red Bull and especially McLaren are very strong. That’s why I think it’s complicated, but it’s still more realistic than the drivers’ championship,” the Monegasque explains.
Then, with his usual determined manner, he adds: “For me, though, it’s not impossible. I never stop believing, that doesn’t happen with me—I always try to give my best in everything.”
In the end, Charles Leclerc’s voice reveals his desire to cling to that glimmer of hope that refuses to fade. But at the same time, there’s also a latent bitterness for his rollercoaster journey with Ferrari.
