2024 will not be a transition year for the Ferrari SF-24 in Formula 1, according to team boss Frédéric Vasseur. The Maranello team principal responds to the criticisms that have already surfaced during Tuesday’s press conference. The English press is already convinced of the inevitable failure of the upcoming World Championship campaign for the Prancing Horse, yet the judgments seem overly hasty.
With the presentations concluded, it’s time to hit the track. The first and only pre-season testing session ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 championship is scheduled to take place from February 21 to 23 at the Sakhir circuit, where we will finally get a glimpse of the competitive landscape. While Red Bull has reportedly outclassed the competition, according to both team engineers and authoritative analysts, the Maranello team principal reiterates: the aim for 2024 is to fight for victories.
“The upcoming season will not be a transition year,” Frédéric Vasseur stated firmly during the press conference. “It will be an important year, and I am fully focused on it. It is the best way to prepare for what is to come: we want to perform well in 2024, win races, and continue the path started in 2023, without thinking about 2025.” – the French manager pointed out.
These statements align well with what Charles Leclerc has also expressed. The Monegasque driver has full confidence in the SF-24 project, stating that it “started well” from the first laps at Fiorano. Despite no apparent revolutionary concept visible on the chassis, significant work has been done in Maranello on the car’s mechanics, aiming to make it more drivable and gentle on the tires.

“Bahrain will tell us where we stand,” Fred Vasseur concludes. “It’s always about comparing the work done with that of others. Gaining two seconds makes you look foolish if, in the meantime, others gain three. However, if we can win races, we will be in a better position to compete for the championship. The two things are connected.”
