This Sunday will be a historic event for motorsport enthusiasts, particularly for those who love covered wheels: the 100th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on the well-known track. On Tuesday evening, the cars hit the track for practice sessions, while yesterday saw the first qualifying session, which determined the top eight cars per category that will battle for today’s pole position.
During the afternoon’s action, which was also marked by several red flags, it was the Ferrari 499Ps that stood out at the top of the leaderboard. The time set by Antonio Fuoco aboard car number 50 was 3.25.213, while car number 51 finished the lap just 199 milliseconds behind. The start looks very promising as the traditional favorites, Toyota and Porsche, are trailing behind the Red cars. However, we must wait for today’s verdict to truly celebrate.
An honorable mention also goes to Alessio Rovera, who topped the leaderboard in the GTE category, also driving a Ferrari. Furthermore, in this endurance class, the other AF Corse car closely follows its teammate. The hope for this 24 Hours of Le Mans is that the Prancing Horse’s cars do not follow the trend of their Formula 1 siblings: fast on Saturday but slow on Sunday.
