The Las Vegas Grand Prix is not just about Formula 1. Over 35,000 workers employed in casinos, hotels, and restaurants are well aware of that. On Friday, they will participate in what could potentially become the largest strike in the history of the United States.
The strike has been called by the “Culinary and Bartenders Union,” a union dedicated to protecting workers in the entertainment and hospitality industry. “Our members earn too little. We aim to demand the biggest wage increase ever,” explained a spokesperson.
However, it’s not just about money; workplace safety is also a concern.
“Our workers are seeking enhanced safety, especially in light of technological advancements,” the union elaborates. The strike would mark the first ever for workers in this category in Las Vegas and set a record in the United States in terms of the number of workers involved.

This is certainly not good news with the Grand Prix scheduled for November 19, especially considering that the union has asked fans to refrain from visiting hotels and casinos.

“We made a proposal some time ago,” the union says, referring to negotiations with giants like MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment. “It is no longer sufficient; we want a wage that reflects the record profits enjoyed by these companies.”
When contacted by The Independent, the leading companies involved in the potential strike chose not to comment. The inaugural edition of the Nevada Grand Prix faces uphill challenges.
