After a one-week break following the Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Formula 1 will resume in Spielberg, where the Austrian Grand Prix will take place this weekend (June 30 – July 2). The Spielberg event will be the ninth round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship and the second race of the season that will take place based on the Sprint format.
Ferrari show signs of improvement in the previous round, even though the fourth and fifth place secured by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz may point to a different scenario. The two Ferrari men started the Canadian Grand Prix from outside the top ten and recovered thanks to a solid stragety form the Maranello pitwall, but most importantly thanks to a good race pace and tyre management, which proved to be the main weaknesses of the SF-23 single-seater in this start of the season.
The Italian side took advantage of its second Filming Day, which was held last Tuesday at its Fiorano hometrack, to also test some crucial updates which the Maranello team is planning to introduce for the Austrian Grand Prix. Since the Barcelona race, Ferrari has decided to make substantial interventions on the SF-23, with updates aimed at improving the competitiveness of the car and addressing the lack of consistency in its performance. Only one podium achieved in the first eight races is clearly below expectations, and the standings confirm this, with Ferrari in fourth place among the constructors, trailing the dominant Red Bull by 199 points.
The Ferrari SF-23 will already have the updates that were tested at Fiorano in Austria, with the ambitious goal of closing the gap against rival teams. It’s a daring decision, considering that the weekend program at Spielberg includes only one free practice session on Friday morning, before the parc fermé rules come into effect, as qualifying will already take place on Friday afternoon, with the Sprint Race scheduled for Saturday. On Tuesday morning, Carlos Sainz tested the new front wing, which is also designed based on the philosophy of Max Verstappen’s dominant RB19. At the Red Bull Ring, there will also be a different rear wing and a different management of the hybrid system, as well as detailed aerodynamic modifications, as previously confirmed by the Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix Betting Odds
With a solid 69-point advantage at the top of the Drivers’ standings ahead of this weekend, it is clearly no surprise that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen also leads the way as a favorite to continue his winning streak and secure a seventh victory this F1 campaign in the race scheduled to take place at the Red Bull Ring. The Dutchman’s teammate Sergio Perez follows as second favorite based on the odds and picks from Barstool sportsbook even though the Mexican has been going to a difficult time, especially compared to the impressive performance of his teammate. Fernando Alonso is seen as the driver outside Red Bull to have a better chance at challenging the leading duo, while Charles Leclerc at +1300, while Charles Leclerc is pegged as a +2000 bet to take his first race win this season. In fact, Ferrari’s last Formula 1 win was secured by the Monegasque driver last season in Austria, exactly one year ago.
