Lewis Hamilton ended Max Verstappen’s reign in free practice sessions for the 2021 Styrian Grand Prix by going quickest in FP3. Verstappen looked on course to complete the set by coming out on top once more in practice sessions at the Red Bull Ring, but Hamilton pulled it out of the bag. The Brit’s time of 1:04.369 was 0.204 seconds quicker than Verstappen
Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc finished the session in P7, almost one second behind the best lap time of the day, while Carlos Sainz was P13, after encountering traffic problems in his qualifying simulalations at the Red Bull Ring. McLaren, third in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of Ferrari, had an atypically low-key showing. Daniel Ricciardo finished towards the foot of the midfield in 17th position while Lando Norris was the sole driver to record his best effort on Medium tyres, placing 19th.
