Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has upped the ante in Mexico has the Dutchman went fastest in second practice. Max Verstappen lead both Mercedes drivers with a time of 1:17.301 which was nearly half a second faster than both Mercedes drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.
Glorious sunshine again in Mexico City as plenty of drivers went out on track in the start of the second free practice session for the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, including both Scuderia Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Ferrari focused on track positions in order to be able to get some clear runs, but still getting the tyres to work in the right temperature window proved to be a difficult challenge, as both Charles and Carlos struggled to complete a push lap in ideal conditions. Different setups for the SF21 cars during the qualifying and race simulations at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, which will be useful for the Maranello team to identify the best configurations for Saturday and Sunday.

The Spanish driver eventually finished the second free practice session in fifth place, with a personal best lap time of 1:18.318, about one second behind the best lap time of the day, which was achieved by Max Verstappen. Charles Leclerc, who complained about struggling with balance and handling of his SF21 car, finished in P7 (1:18.605), as Yuki Tsunoda, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso completed the top ten in FP2 for the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix.
Ferrari seem to be best-placed to edge their midfield rivals McLaren, but the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull remains big, despite the fact that many expected the Italian side to be closer to the top 2 on this circuit.
