An extraordinary race, full of emotions and twists. In Sochi, the experience of Lewis Hamilton won, starting quietly but capable of setting an irresistible pace from the middle of the race onwards. Lando Norris and McLaren threw the race away after the torrential rain of the last laps: the seven-time world champion had the intuition to stop for the intermediates before the young McLaren, who chose instead to continue with the slicks hoping for an improvement in conditions.
Victory number 100 in Formula 1 for Hamilton, but Max Verstappen was the protagonist of an extraordinary comeback from 20th place, also favored by the ideal call to change to the intermediates: the Dutchman thus limited the damage even if he had to surrender the lead of the standings. Third place for Carlos Sainz, who led the race until Norris showed the superiority of his McLaren. Ricciardo, Bottas, Alonso, Norris, Raikkonen, Perez and Russell also scored points. Charles Leclerc, who, like Norris, chose to continue with slicks despite the rain, finished outside the points-zone.
