The session which was scheduled to run at 15:00 local time, has been postponed whilst the stewards wait for the standing water to clear. Q1 will start at 15:12 local time as the safety car rounds the circuit to clear the standing water. With only four sets of intermediate tyres and three set of full wet tyres the drivers had to be mindful of their mileage, especially considering the Grand Prix on Sunday is predicted to be wet as well.
A mix of wets and inters on show for the cars in the queue at the start of Q1. In such conditions, the unpredictability certainly increases and the drop zone was ever-changing. Scuderia Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz made it to Q2 without any problems despite the difficult conditions and in the end Q1 did not bring any big surprises, with Antonio Giovinazzi, Yuki Tsunoda, Mick Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Nikita Mazepin eliminated in the first phase.
The second knockout session was then underway, with the cars still very much sticking with those inters amid the wet conditions. Sadly the SF21 cars of Charles and Carlos just did not have the speed in these conditions, with the Monegasque driver 11th and the Spanish driver 13th, sandwiched by the Williams of Nicholas Latifi and unable to make it through to Q3!
It will therefore be an uphill battle for Scuderia Ferrari on Sunday, as the Maranello team will try to fight its way back in the points zone at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
