Valtteri Bottas topped FP1 for the fifth race in a row as he claimed top spot in the first-ever Formula 1 session at Mugello. Max Verstappen was second, whilst Charles Leclerc secured an encouraging P3 for Scuderia Ferrari ahead of the Maranello team’s 1000th race.

Bottas’ time of 1:17.879 was enough to secure P1 in FP1 at Mugello. It is the fourth FP1 in a row where the Finn has topped the opening session, having secured top spot in Britain, Spain, Belgium, and at Monza before this. Max Verstappen finished second with a time of 1:17.927 with Charles Leclerc (with a personal best of 1m 18.186) putting in a solid showing in P3 for the Maranello team at the start of their 1000th race.

Despite Charles Leclerc’s encouraging performance, Sebastian Vettel ended the morning a lowly P13 in the other Ferrari SF1000 car behind Kimi Raikkonen and Grosjean. Seb finished the first practice session with a personal best of 1m 19.267, almost 1.5 seconds slower than Valtteri Bottas’s best lap time.
