Lewis Hamilton booked his 150th front row Formula 1 start with a fifth Spanish GP pole position while Sebastian Vettel’s new chassis couldn’t get him out of Q2. 50’C track temperature, a blustering tailwind into Turn 4 and 13 that picked up prior to qualifying and soft tyres that required management. Those were just some of the challenges that awaited the drivers in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.
It was a very difficult qualifying session for Scuderia Ferrari. Sebastian Vettel missed out on the top ten and will start from P11. It was only 0.002s in the end to Norris that Sebastian Vettel missed out on Q3, but the more telling gap is the 0.2s to his team-mate Charles Leclerc, who is again the only Ferrari in Q3.
But Charles could only managed a P9 in Q3, with a personal best that was 1.713s slower than Mercedes in a frustrating afternoon for Scuderia Ferrari.
