Lewis Hamilton dominated the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix from pole position and was never under threat, finishing well clear of second-placed Max Verstappen, who secured the runner-up spot despite crashing on his way to the grid before the race.
Valtteri Bottas completed the podium in third after a terrible start saw him drop down the order from second on the grid, but the Finn lost the championship lead to Hamilton. Racing Point’s Lance Stroll finished fourth ahead of Red Bull’s Alex Albon and Sebastian Vettel in the best of the Ferraris, as teammate Charles Leclerc failed to score.
Seb ran wide late on while in fifth place and lost the position to Alex Albon, as the German driver was struggling with old tyres. The Ferrari hung on for a lapped sixth ahead of slow-starter Sergio Perez’s Racing Point and the Renault of Daniel Ricciardo.
The other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc briefly ran fourth at the start but taking softs when everyone else went for mediums or hards once off intermediates backfired badly for the Monegasque. He was soon holding up a train of cars as his tyres faded and was then committed to earlier-than-ideal second and third stops.
Leclerc finally finished outside the points in 11th, overtaken in the closing stages by Carlos Sainz Jr – who salvaged a point for McLaren as a poor first lap and pitlane congestion left team-mate Lando Norris only 13th.
