The first practice session ahead of the 2019 Spanish Grand Prix took place this afternoon at the Circuit de Catalunya, as the two Alfa Romeo Racing drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi began preparations for the qualifying session and the race on Sunday.

It was a somewhat difficult afternoon for both drivers, as Kimi Raikkonen completed 22 laps, with a personal best of 1:20.591, more than two and a half seconds down on the best time of the day. Italian driver Antonio Giovinazzi completed 28 laps and finished in P14 (1:20.021). Upgraded Haas headed the midfield, as Romain Grosjean ended the session in fifth place. Magnussen was seventh, over two-tenths down on his teammate, with Carlos Sainz separating the two American cars. Pierre Gasly was the only Red Bull inside the top ten, as he headed Daniil Kvyat and Nico Hulkenberg, who rounded out the top ten in the Renault.

Valtteri Bottas has topped the opening practice session of the weekend, beating Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to the top spot.

Second practice for the Spanish Grand Prix begins at 3pm local time (2pm BST).
