Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen managed to fight his way back to the top ten and continue his point-scoring start of the season after finishing the Chinese Grand Prix in P9. Antonio Giovinazzi’s struggles continued, as the Italian driver had to settle for P15, just ahead of the Williams pair George Russell and Robert Kubica.
Kimi Raikkonen battled past both Haas drivers in the first stint at the Shanghai International Circuit, but the team’s strategy to keep the Finnish driver as much as possible on the Medium tyre may not have proven to be ideal for the final stages of the race. In the end Kimi’s tyres did not allow an overtaking attempt on Racing Point’s Sergio Perez, who finished just ahead of Kimi.
Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton dominated Formula 1’s 1000th World Championship Grand Prix as Mercedes cruised to a 1-2 finish in China. Both Mercedes drivers ran a two-stop strategy in cool and overcast conditions at the Shanghai International Circuit, with the team opting to double-stack the duo at the second round of stops.
