The venue for the penultimate round of 2019, Interlagos, is closely connected to the country’s racing heros: Emerson Fittipaldi, Carlos Pace and Ayrton Senna. It was Fittipaldi who blazed the trail for Brazilians in Formula 1, where he proved a revelation when he arrived in the ’70s complete with rock-star hair and sideburns. With his success came calls for a Brazilian Grand Prix, and in 1973 F1 made its debut at Interlagos. The São Paulo track saw the one and only victory of Carlos Pace, and was named after him following his death. After a spell in Rio, the race was restored to São Paulo in 1990, in time for the Paulista to watch local hero Ayrton Senna win in ’91 and ’93.
Interlagos always promises action, especially if the drivers title is still to be decided.
Follow us in a few moments for the latest updates and results from the Brazilian Grand Prix, as the second practice session is about to get underway, with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc at the wheel of the SF90, ready to continue evaluating the ideal set-up ahead of the qualifying session and the race on Sunday.
