Kimi Raikkonen won the United States Grand Prix in Austin, in his Ferrari, 1.2 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen in his Red Bull-Renault in second place, followed by Lewis Hamilton, 2.3 seconds behind the winner in his Mercedes.
It is the first win for Raikkonen since the 2013 Australian GP, and his 21st career victory. It is the first Ferrari win in the United States since Michael Schumacher in 2006. It is the sixth win for Ferrari this season, the first five coming from Vettel.
Sebastian Vettel (18.2s) in the second Ferrari was fourth.
“Today’s win came courtesy of Kimi who drove a great race and the team, which at such a tricky time, showed great courage in taking a step back, fighting our closest rivals on equal terms. Seb was unfortunate and had to fight his way back up the order after the collision on the opening lap. In the championship, the numbers are against us, but we will knuckle down and fight all the way to the end, just as we did today.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene concluded, as reported by the Maranello team’s official website.
