After long negotiations throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the FIA agreed in principal to the first ever night race to be held in Singapore in 2007. The first race took place in 2008, using a bespoke, state-of-the-art lighting system to light up the 5.065km of Marina Bay Circuit. The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix was the first street race in Asia and the first ever Formula 1 night race.
Set against the backdrop of downtown Singapore, drivers and spectators alike will get a glimpse of the exotic garden city as the circuit winds past an intriguing blend of historic landmarks such as the City Hall and modern-day buildings such as the iconic Esplanade.
Join us later in the afternoon for the latest updates, news and results from the Marina Bay Street Circuit, as the second practice session for the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix is about to get underway, with Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel of the SF71H, ready to continue evaluating the ideal set-up ahead of the qualifying session and the race on Sunday.
