Practice One for the 2018 Mexican Grand Prix ended with a Red Bull one-two, something we haven’t written that often in recent years.
Max Verstappen’s pacesetting time was particularly noteworthy, with early indications suggesting that Red Bull will be right in the mix here. The Dutchman was 0.483 seconds quicker than team-mate Daniel Ricciardo and 1.270secs quicker than third-placed man Carlos Sainz of Renault.
Mercedes and Scuderia Ferrari were unusually down the top-10 order, but it’s hard to believe they are really in excess of 1.4s off the pace.
For this session, Ferrari decided to go for a back-to-back testing of the new floor, as the updates were removed in Austin due to the wet conditions.
The new floor came off Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari with 45 minutes to go from FP 1 and the old spec was bolted on, while on Sebastian Vettel’s car, the old floor came off and the new floor was put on.
