Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, chasing his 100th podium this weekend and a four times winner at Spa, edged out Lewis Hamilton in second free practice session on Friday, ahead of the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix, after the Maranello team’s title contender Sebastian Vettel bounced back from Formula One’s August break with a spring in his step on Friday, lapping fastest in opening practice for the Belgian Grand Prix at an overcast Spa circuit.
On the day title rivals Scuderia Ferrari and Mercedes introduced upgraded engines, Sebastian Vettel topped a Practice One session for the first time this season with a best lap of 1:44.358, while Kimi Raikkonen complete a positive afternoon session with a fastest time of 1:43.355 to give the Scuderia the perfect start to a Spa weekend Sky F1’s Martin Brundle has labelled a “must-win” event for the team. As seen often, it looks remarkably close between Mercedes and Ferrari at the front, who are expected to fight it out for top honours on a circuit that heavily rewards engine power.
