The first two practice session ahead of the 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix were not ideal for Scuderia Ferrari, as both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen encountered technical problems which prevented them from completing the qualifying and race simulations on Friday.
Kimi Raikkonen had to try and recover as much as possible after his first session at the Bahrain International Circuit ended prematurely when he stopped on track with a smoking engine after completing only six laps. The Maranello team now hopes it can salvage the engine, which would be very important given the limited number of engines that can be used during the 2017 Formula One season.
Ferrari unfortunately had even more trouble in FP2 when Sebastian Vettel’s car shut down in the same area of the track where his teammate had stopped in the first session at the Bahrain International Circuit. However, the German driver was able to get the car back to the pits after leaning forward to reach the “neutral” button ahead of the cockpit, and then managed to rejoin the circuit just a few minutes later.
