The 1991 Ferrari 643 challenger which officially launched the Formula 1 career of French racing driver Jean Alesi with the Maranello team will be auctioned at the beginning of February by RM Sotheby’s, a classic car auction company headquartered in Blenheim, Ontario, Canada. According to the official website of RM Sotheby, the car has a presale estimate of between €2.9 million and €3.4 million (US$3.1 million and US$3.6 million).
The Ferrari Formula 1 car, with a chassis number of 127, remains in full running order, according to RM Sotheby’s. It boasts a 3.5-liter V12 engine producing over 710 brake horsepower, the available power of an engine, nearly six times what a regular car can reach.
French professional racing driver of Italian origin Jean Alesi took part in the 1991 French Grand Prix at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours behind the wheel of the Ferrari 643 car, finishing the race just outside the podium, in fourth place, less than one second behind the McLaren-Honda of Ayrton Senna, after starting the Grand Prix from sixth place. He also raced the car in the British Grand Prix in the same year, while his teammate Gianni Morbidelli drove the car for the last round of the season, and qualified in 8th position, only one place behind Jean Alesi in his first race for Ferrari.
Jean Alesi raced for the Maranello team until 1995, winning the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix, the only race victory of his Formula 1 career. The 1991 Ferrari 643 challenger will be offered at the auction house’s Paris sale on February 1 at a new venue, Salles du Carrousel in Louvre Palace.
